FIRST Lego League Explore Program
In the Fall students are welcome to join the FIRST Lego League Explore program, which is a 2-3 month session program held at Sunset Hills Elementary School on Mondays after school. The season culminates at a Lego League Expo, such as the one held at Westview High School, where teams from the region present the projects they have been working on all season long.

The FIRST Lego League Explore program is part of the succession of robotics-related programs created by FIRST and are used locally by other PUSD elementary schools, Black Mountain Middle School, Westview and Mt. Carmel High Schools.

Students will be working out of a STEAM-based workbook created by FIRST Lego League Explore while guided by adult coaches. (Adult volunteers will be provided online support materials and a coach's handbook. Coaches don't need to be engineers to help out. They just have to love to help teach/coach kids and play with Lego!)

This program is for students 2nd grade and up. Students will use a Lego Education Spike Essential Robotics Kit, tablets running the Spike LEGO Education App, along with the Lego set for this year's FIRST Lego League Explore theme. Studnets will work in teams for combined fun, challenge, learning, and collaboration. FIRST Lego League Explore is a non-competitive, educational program.

Students will progress through an engineering notebook with Lego building activities and coding/robotics activities. The Spike Essential Kit includes motors, color sensors, gyro sensor, customizable lighting, technic and non-technic blocks. Coding is done through the Spike LEGO Education App with visual block coding (optional: text block coding similar to the popular Scratch coding language.)
